I was tapped to cover a press conference today, where I heard from bright young men and women. Most of whom had recently graduated from highschool and were headed for colledge. One of whom was already a colledge grad on his way to getting a law degree.
All of them had “Aged out” of the foster care system. They turned 18 while in-system and were kicked out without a safety net. Some were survivors of abuse, or children of drug addicts. All had overcome extreme difficulties to get where they were.
Michele Bachman was there. She spoke unironically about how the government needed to better support foster children. I later learned that her family has fostered dozens of kids.
Bachman is a foster parent. My life is weird.
